Introduction

At FitPesa, we respect your right to control your personal data. This Data Deletion Policy explains how you can request deletion of your account and personal information from our systems.

This policy applies to all users of the FitPesa mobile application and complies with GDPR, NDPR (Nigeria Data Protection Regulation), and other applicable data protection laws.

1. Your Right to Deletion

Under data protection laws, you have the right to request deletion of your personal data. This is also known as the "right to be forgotten" or "right to erasure."

When You Can Request Deletion:

  • You no longer want to use FitPesa services
  • You withdraw your consent for data processing
  • Your data is no longer necessary for the purposes collected
  • You object to the processing of your data
  • Your data has been unlawfully processed

2. What Data Will Be Deleted

When you request account deletion, the following data will be permanently removed from our systems:

Personal Information:

  • Your name, email address, and phone number
  • Profile photo and bio
  • Date of birth and gender
  • Country of residence

Activity Data:

  • Walking and fitness activity records
  • Step counts and distance traveled
  • Challenge participation history
  • Ad viewing and engagement data

Financial Data:

  • FITP token balance and transaction history
  • Mobile money account linkages
  • Purchase and marketplace transaction records
  • Loan application history

Social & Community Data:

  • Chat messages and community posts
  • Friend connections and social interactions
  • FitLovers dating profile and matches
  • Project backing and crowdfunding activity

3. What Data May Be Retained

For legal, security, and business purposes, certain data may be retained even after deletion request:

Data Retained for Legal Compliance:

  • Transaction records required by law (up to 7 years for tax/audit purposes)
  • Records needed for ongoing legal disputes or investigations
  • Anti-fraud and security logs (anonymized after 90 days)
  • KYC (Know Your Customer) documents required by financial regulations

Aggregated & Anonymized Data:

We may retain anonymized data that cannot be linked back to you for analytics and research purposes. This includes aggregate statistics like "total users in Nigeria" or "average daily steps."

4. How to Request Data Deletion

You can request deletion of your account and data through the following methods:

In-App Request

  1. 1. Open the FitPesa app
  2. 2. Go to SettingsAccount
  3. 3. Tap "Delete Account"
  4. 4. Confirm deletion and provide reason (optional)
  5. 5. Receive confirmation email

Email Request

Send an email to:

privacy@fitpesa.com

Include in your email:

  • • Subject: "Data Deletion Request"
  • • Your registered email/phone
  • • Username (if applicable)
  • • Reason for deletion (optional)

Important: You must verify your identity before we can process deletion requests. We may ask for additional information to confirm you are the account owner.

5. Deletion Timeline

We aim to process data deletion requests as quickly as possible:

Stage Timeframe What Happens
Request Received Day 0 We acknowledge your request via email
Identity Verification 1-3 days We verify you are the account owner
Account Deactivation Immediately after verification Your account is locked and inaccessible
Data Deletion Within 30 days Personal data is permanently deleted from active systems
Backup Deletion Within 90 days Data removed from backup systems

Grace Period: You have 30 days after requesting deletion to change your mind. Contact us at support@fitpesa.com to cancel the deletion request.

6. Consequences of Data Deletion

Before requesting deletion, please understand the following consequences:

Permanent Loss:

  • Your FITP token balance will be permanently lost and cannot be recovered
  • All marketplace purchases, rewards, and achievements will be deleted
  • You will lose access to any ongoing loans or crowdfunding projects
  • Your FitLovers matches and chat history will be deleted
  • Any pending transactions will be cancelled

Before Deleting, Consider:

  • Withdrawing or spending your FITP tokens
  • Completing any pending loan repayments
  • Cancelling marketplace orders
  • Downloading your data (see Section 7)
